Hipodromo Independencia Rosario Founded in 1900 by horse enthusiasts from throughout the province of Santa Fe, the Jockey Club de Rosario sought a location for the building of a racecourse. A plot of land from Parque de la Independencia was donated by the then governor, Luis Lamas and construction began immediately. Work was completed quickly and the inaugural meeting was able to take place at Hipodromo Independencia on 8th December 1901 with 3000 people attending the event. Although the Jockey Club de Rosario continue to use the venue, control of the racecourse reverted to the municipality in 2006.
