Unfortunately, the regulations don’t seem to be as rigorously applied as you might expect in the UK. One of the biggest issues I find is when betting e/w and the jockey drops his hands or fails to ride out for a place.

Yes, he took it far too casually and then once passed it was too little, too late. Not uncommon, unfortunately. Its one of the reasons why I personally tend to avoid betting short in these races. You need to have a margin that will take account of these things.
