Strange night last night they all seemed to run well without to many hitting the target – Was very impressed with Casa Di Giulietta though that would have one pulling a cart, Didn’t even get the best of breaks.
Luckily that was my biggest single so ended up around levels for the evening, Big card again at Club Hipico tonight looks pretty decent. Is J, Laprida not riding at the mo as he was my go to man on the first timers, had some lovely tickles backing his when they started to shorten as more often than not once they started to shorten they would then tumble at a lightening rate and the bookies couldn’t keep up !
I got a touch lucky last night. I didn’t do a great deal but I had Casa Di Giulietta and an e/w on the 16/1 that placed. A couple of frustrating seconds too but I managed to snag 12/1 on Dimanche in the live market.
First impressions are that Santiago could be tough tonight but we’ll see. Jeremy Laprida is currently riding in USA, not sure if that is a permanent arrangement.
Nice – I tend to look at it if I hold my own im more than happy and any profit is a Very Good night and Just try to stay clear of the big loss nights, Certainly looks very competitive tonight are the big fields a consequence of the lack of meetings at other tracks ? Are they still closed due to Covid as strange some are racing but not others,
Oh I did see a J Laprida riding in the states but thought it couldnt be him, Would be a big blow as he is the only Jockey I have a strategy with and hes seems to be one of the best, Do you actually have favourite trainers/jockeys that you factor in ? Apart from Laprida I just back on value so pay no real attention to whos on them or who trains them,
Good luck tonight !
They have local quarantine areas in Chile. Both CHS and Hipodromo Chile are in the Greater Santiago region but one has restarted while Hipodromo Chile remains closed since March. It is not that far to Valparaiso which was able to be open for a while but has since closed again. Concepcion is a long way from the capital and has been less impacted by Covid so far though recent reports suggest situation is deteriorating in the area. However, new rules may allow sporting events to proceed irrespective of quarantine. Hipo Chile hope this may allow them to resume soon. The closure of Hipo C/Valparaiso and the relatively recent reopening of Santiago are undoubtedly leading to bigger fields. Concepcion, Monterrico, Maronas, Valparaiso have all seen record entries on restart.
Top-ranking jockeys from Chile have always gravitated towards racing in the US. Hector Berrios and Jaime Medina are also currently riding there. I consider jockeys as secondary, it doesn’t influence me hugely. I am sometimes deterred by apprentices but generally I make the pick and either cringe or consider it a bonus.
Now it makes sense, Thanks ! Ive given up on Monterrico the markets are all over the show for the way I try and bet, Miss Valparasio though and Hipo is a big loss as I tend to do quite well there, Lets hope they get them all back on sooner rather than later,
I never realised that about Chilean Jockeys – Good to hear as some do seem cracking riders and very good at just judging where the post is, Not so sorry to see Medina leave, He is one jockey I defo couldn’t never get right !
May I ask what perked your interest in South American racing as it seems a strange choice of areas to study was it the value angle ? Me I actually prefer it now to virtually most other racing as I think you tend to have a far better chance.
I’ve always had an interest in racing in general and the especially the international element. I used to follow a lot of UK horses racing overseas. It is difficult to establish a website in a competitive market. When I heard SIS were planning to incorporate meetings from South America into their main broadcast I thought it could be a niche that no-one else was doing. I started studying it and it started to pay off once Paddy Power began offering early odds.
How’s both meetings look like tonight matt, lost small last night ran couple yankees on got a double up got my money back what’s your betting strategy on the horses Matt I’m wondering weather to bet singles every race and do the yankess or just the singles?
Hi Harry, I tend to only back those at longer odds or shorter if I consider it particularly good value. Individual winners and losers are unimportant as long as you consistently beat the book. When I see a number of those I like I tend to put them in multiples but its always singles first, that’s your bread and butter.
Monterrico tends to be of limited interest, you get the odd one there but often there’s not a lot going on. Santiago looks difficult tonight. It will take me a while to work through it but probably wise to be cautious regardless.
Monterrico turned out a little more interesting than expected though I still wouldn’t be inclined to get carried away.
Lovely Matt keep me posted thanks mate
Haha I was waiting for the Hipico tips so missed all the early prices at Monterrico, Seems they have been well backed already. But as stated earlier I tend to stay well clear of Monterrico anyway so only do small trebles onwards, Out of interest where are the majority of the horses breed for peru – Im guessing most have brazillian connections. It does have some entertainment value though as they fly out the stalls like cats of hot tin roofs :-)
The straight course at Monterrico is so wide it can be difficult to gauge pace and position. Lots of short priced faves turned over. Better on the round course with a distinct advantage to those that turn on the inside. You’ll see those drawn wide flat out of the stalls in an attempt to get across. Beyond domestic, you see plenty of US bred horses and also from Argentina. Brazil does feature too.
